¿Por qué el logopeda es la mejor ayuda para la hipoacusia infantil?

Por fortuna, son muchos los profesionales que ayudan a las personas con discapacidad auditiva a mejorar su nivel de audición. Audioprotesistas, otorrinos, pediatras y logopedas. Sí, los logopedas también aportan su granito de arena en la mejora de trastornos auditivos. Puede que a los padres de niños con hipoacusia no se les ocurra, en un primer momento, acudir a una consulta logopédica para tratar el problema auditivo de su hijo.

Pero lo cierto es que como figura encargada del lenguaje y de la comunicación, el logopeda tiene mucho que contar sobre qué es la hipoacusia. Y en el caso de los niños, el tratamiento logopédico para la hipoacusia es una de las soluciones más indicadas.

¿Por qué el logopeda es la persona que mejor va ayudar a un niño hipoacúsico? En primer lugar porque la logopedia trata patologías relacionadas con: el lenguaje, el habla, la voz y la audición. Al aplicar la terapia del lenguaje en cada una de las sesiones ayudará a disminuir las disfunciones auditivas y, además, está capacitado para adaptar las técnicas empleadas a cada niño para ayudarle a convivir con su problema auditivo.

Los audífonos pueden ser una solución para la hipoacusia, pero el desarrollo de esta patología auditiva lleva consigo también dificultades en el desarrollo del lenguaje. Por lo que lo más común es que el logopeda sea la persona que ayudará a mejorar la relación y la comunicación de los niños con hipoacusia. Estos son algunos ejemplos de tratamiento y ejercicios logopédicos que van a ayudar a esa mejora.

Tratamiento logopédico para la hipoacusia

El logopeda preparará cada sesión adaptándose a las necesidades de cada niño, a su edad y a la edad en al que se produjo el déficit auditivo y al tipo de hipoacusia que manifieste. Siempre es bueno que colabore con el pediatra y con el otorrino para compartir indicaciones y resultados sobre los avances comunicativos del niño. Como materiales principal que va a usar para fomentar la mejora de su comunicación se encuentra la estimulación auditiva.

A través de ejercicios divertidos y juegos lúdicos buscará estimular la comprensión lectora y la capacidad auditiva del paciente. Sin olvidar, por supuesto, las sesiones de entrenamiento auditivo en las que se trabajará la memoria auditiva junto con la rehabilitación logopédica.

La Asociación Nacional de Audioprotesistas y Audiólogos Protésicos (ANA) recoge el método “leer para hablar” como experiencia científica para tratar a un niño con discapacidad auditiva desde la logopedia y haciéndolo a través de la lectura. Este método, que fue presentado en el II Congreso Internacional de Lenguaje Escrito y Sordera, verificó como a través de gestos de apoyo, de la palabra complementada y el sistema bimodal se lograba estimular el lenguaje oral del niño con sordera. Los gestos y los signos aplicados funcionarán como elementos de recuerdo que se verán reflejados en una mejora de la expresión y comprensión comunicativa-lingüística.

Por otro lado, la AICE (Asociación de Implantados Cocleares de España) aprueba la metodología verbotonal en la que se destaca la importancia de la audición para la adquisición del lenguaje y plantea los procesos de intervención estructurados en cuatro fases:

  • Detección: Fase de condicionamiento al sonido, en la que se realizan ejercicios de ausencia/presencia de sonidos.
  • Discriminación. Distinguir si dos sonidos son iguales o diferentes.
  • Identificación. Identificar y reproducir sonidos mostrados.
  • Reconocimiento. Reconocer y repetir un sonido, ritmo, palabra o frase
  • Comprensión. Comprensión oral a través de diferentes situaciones comunicativas: diálogos, noticias,…

Hay que tener en cuenta que las condiciones ambientales del lugar o sala en el que se va a realizar la rehabilitación logopédica, debe estar acondicionado para ello y estar aislado de los ruidos del entorno. El logopeda utilizará los llamados visualizadores del habla, donde el sujeto emite sonidos y el programa de software produce un feedback visual o táctil y aplicaciones multimedia interactivas, donde el programa produce los sonidos junto con un estímulo visual relacionado y el sujeto responde a través del teclado u otro dispositivo de entrada de la información.

¿Existen logopedas especializados en tratar la audición?

La respuesta es sí y se conocen como logopedas especializados en Terapia Auditiva Verbal (TAV). A través de distintas herramientas conseguirá potenciar las habilidades auditivas, lingüísticas y cognitivas del paciente.  evaluación y el informe final.
